Palaiokastro

On the northwest side of Ios, just 18 km.  from the port, you will find Palaiokastro. This Byzantine castle was built for the surveillance of the sea routes leading to Crete. You can reach it via a short paved trail. You can still see parts of the walls and ruins of the buildings of the settlement and the church of Panagia Palaiokastritissa. The view from up there is breathtaking: the endless blue of the Aegean Sea and a clear view of the islands of Naxos, Paros, Amorgos and the Small Cyclades.
